I think it looks off because of the unfinished walls -- the tile and the wall paint sample will create and interesting and elegant look, I think. Agree that I wouldn't do a different gray elsewhere, though, especially in a small space.

As for the mirror, I think I'd go with a larger framed mirror that has a bit more presence. (I will admit that I'm a bit biased against these little tilty deals, but for sure if moving it down wrecks your tile, just use something bigger.) If you can get a hammered metal frame, it will tie in with the feel of both walls and vanity.

Thank you acm, this is helpful. Would you have any suggestions for which grey to use? Does the sample of Agreeable Grey work? It maybe seems washed out to me. I"m not sure if that's just because of the existing paint underneath.

I just took the gray from your picture and spread it around, so I think the Agreeable Grey might be fine. It looks like a good match for the tile (or at least the grout) in both tone and shade -- I don't think you want it so close to the tile that you stop noticing the pennies... Looking at your close-up, you could probably go a shade darker (in a purple direction), but since it looks fine from farther out, and won't be that directly lit, I'd tend not to. I think what I'd do is use nice white primer to cover up all the brown, then do patches of your candidate grays (Agreeable and maybe two nearby friends) in order to decide.

i think your tile could be easily patched with grout and you'd not notice it if you had a more eye catching mirror to look at. not like patching a large format rectangular tile.

not saying to move or change your mirror, just that you needn't fear the idea.

I don't know if I'd paint the room light gray. Since it's a small powder room, you have opportunity to do something bold and dramatic. What color is your vanity? I would paint all the walls the darker gray (SW Wall Street), or a dark blue, or look for a dramatic wall paper that pulls in your penny tile color.

You could add some decorative light sconces on the side walls flanking your vanity.

MMILOS: the vanity is a dark brown. The original idea was actually to use wallpaper OR tile, not both. And we opted for tile. Will now think about using both for drama - cost is a consideration, wallpaper seems to add up quickly!

I would find a brand new mirror, something with some style and drama maybe in satin brass, or bronze. And a new light fixture in same finish. There are no fixtures at the vanity that I see so the one in the ceiling should make a statement. I would paint all of the walls a darker more dramatic color, not just the toilet wall with an accent.

I think you were expecting the penny tiles to give a wow factor, but in grey, they just don't, so add it with the wall color, mirror and light.

Can you take a photo of vanity and floor please. Is the color of the penny tile gray? I think you need a contrasting mirror. Not sure until I see the other materials. Also, is the agreeable gray a close match to your tile color? Monitors do not always reveal the most accurate color.

I would paint the other walls a darker, more dramatic color. I think the Agreeable Gray is too close to the tile color and will make them blend in. If you paint the walls darker the tile will stand out and become more of a feature.

Now seeing the space as a whole there is a nice contrast with the walled tile and cabinet. Paint the ceiling and new lighting will harmonize the space and be very striking. I think the last photo depicts the color of tile better. Example below of how striking a ceiling painted in contrast to the walls. Different style but a visual for you. . Yes, the mirror is too high. If the vanity is 32", once you add the at least 18" from the vanity top to the bottom of the mirror, you've got your mirror starting at 50" from the floor. I'm 65" tall so that would put the top of my reflection about in the middle of the mirror, assuming the mirror is 30" tall.

Get another, larger mirror with a light colored frame and repaint the walls a lighter color.

I like that mirror there....just needs to be lowered. Or tilted (looks like it can be). There's a good chance you can replace the tiles that were drilled into if you choose to lower it..

I think your towel rail is upside down...

I would paint it a dark blue (seems I suggest this a lot, but it's more interesting than gray imho...)

Thanks for all the comments. At this point, sconces aren’t an option. Contractor has one foot out the door. That will have to be a future mini-project. I like the suggestion of deep blue colour - Deep Space. Would it work having this in the wall and ceiling? Or would it be better to use a light colour on the ceiling?

love the idea of the darker contrast walls. doing another light gray would be too blah. BTW, the mirror height is ok to me, unless you are all very short. That's not the mirror I would have chosen and I wouldn't have done a tilt one either, but you can always change that down the line. or, if you changed the faucet out to something taller, it would eat up the space. Put a pink orchid off to the side for some height.

I like the deep space or try a charcoal gray w/those blue gray undertones.

you could do a metallic gray ceiling to mimic the flooring.

anything on this color card is perfect for your room. they have the right tones. the last 3 are perfect.

too bad you didn't do a soft gold hardware. looks so nice w/the gray. (look at the lettering on the paint chip!)

Is your ceiling fixture off center?

I would paint the ceiling a deep color and do the walls white to expand the space and give it a modern vibe as shown in the white bathroom picture above; the contrast gives it WOW IMO.....I say this because while I love deep colored walls, a bathroom without a window to me becomes a squinty cave when you are in the said bathroom.....white is my suggestion only. I do like the suggestion of lowering the mirror and replacing the penny tiles but then you have a match problem because you do not know if the color run you put on the wall will exactly match the tile you use to replace the wall tile....I say it is not a problem and not to worry until the room is completely done and go from there.

You have made lovely choices and the bath is looking to be beautifully done.

So we took the advice of light walls and dark ceiling. BM Tundra on the walls and Deep Space on the ceilings. We removed the long towel bar and will add a ring. We are getting new flushmount lighting for the ceiling about the toilet. We won't be putting in new lighting at the vanity. We are still trying to source a mirror. Everything I have tried so far the frames are just too chunky.
Questions - what should go above the toilet and where should the towel ring go?

I would not do a ring personally as I always like a a hand towel on the counter for guests. Do you want art work or shelving? How do you like the ceiling? Nice soap dispenser would add a finishing touch to the powder room.

I'd do the towel ring directly to one side of the sink, where it's easy to reach when standing there. Art over the toilet.

I think it looks good. Maybe consider painting all the walls a darker color? Once it's complete and after accessories are in it will look good.

Thanks all. I love the ceiling colour, just wondering if too dark. Once we put our new light in, we'll have a better sense. Thanks for the great suggestions. I am open to shelving or art above the toilet. We used to have dark brown shelving boxes and in them we displayed some pretty coloured glass turkish tea cups. Don't know how well that would work now.

I love the ceiling color as well with the tile, How does the tundra wall color look with the tile? Monitor is hard to tell and I looked back at your photos and the darker vanity of contrast should harmonize . The tundra wall color has a grayer side and can change with light and with the right art work your powder bath will be fabulous. Mirror will add visual interest as well.

You could try silver rub and buff on your existing dark shelving boxes. Worth a try if they're just sitting in a closet somewhere.

Needing to get the room "done", we used the boxes we had. Maybe will change out to something "lighter" like Jodie White Designs posted. I like that. I wanted to share the temporary "finished" product and say thanks for all the comments. We tried 10 different mirrors, but nothing seemed better than what we had. Still looking for something with a narrower frame but the one we have now is growing on me. Tundra on the walls and Deep Space on the ceiling. New light fixture. I feel like we need something on the wall (left side if you're facing the sink) - maybe a larger art work or a black and white framed print. Gray tones are great, but you will need to pump up the accents with something different. That dk blue was great but should have been behind mirror. So try using some stark white on left/right walls. Loved the black frame for mirror one person showed. Take out flower and add some cute art pieces to walls. Would just put cute basket of pretty towels by sink.
