Question? (Not Sans related) is that an “Epiphyllum” in a white hanging basket on the right side?

Mary, yes, that is an epiphyllum, one of the night blooming species. I think it could be hookeri, but I won't know until it flowers.

Floorwalker and Manuel, I have some shelving units I put them on. They get plenty of light in my bay windows, downstairs and upstairs.

Nancy, your plants look healthy and great. I notice you like big pots. I think they are paying you nice dividends. These tall varieties look their best when they fill a pot - I think :-)

I don’t think one night in the 40s will hurt them. Definitely time to start to move them in though.

Mike and Barb, I love it when the pot gets full. Some of my sans are slow pokes when it comes to doing that, like my Silver Queen.

Mary, love your epiphyllum, they are worth it, just for the blooms. I have been using Osmocote with the green lid on mine and it always seems to have one bloom. Mine is in my hoop house ( we use it for storage) and it is blooming right now.

I brought my plants in Monday, it got down to 36 here. The only plants I left out were my 3 mealy sans and my aloe. They are on the porch, next to the house and I covered them with a folded flannel sheet. They seem okay.

I love my new shelf from Homedepot that I got in July for $20. It is full of plants now.

Good to know Nancy... I use Osmocote with the pink lid on my Sans, but that Epi has been neglected cause I thought it was an ugly plant; my students would even tell me it was an ugly plant, until it bloomed the first year, and now I love it... I will try to re-pot it and use the Osmocote on it too... loving the shelf by the way... I just got a baker’s rack so I could bring some of my Jades in, and add the new Sans that were recently gifted to me. I have a big home, but every single windowsill is taken up by Sans. Most of my Jades spend the Winter in my classroom.

I missed this one before. Love it. Very well grown.

i keep mine out while it's above 44F at night. but i keep them quite dry then.

mine are still out. there are 2 nites coming up around 38-40F and then again 44F for 2 weeks. i might bright in the small one, but 2 large ones are staying out for 2 more weeks at least.

Petrushka, You are taking a serious chance of getting crown rot or root rot. Once it sets in, plants mostly are gone. Some of the big hard leaf sans are stronger to cold then the S. trifasciata futura and hahnii. Just not worth the risk. Got to bring them in anyway.

i do it like that every year (while temps are above 44-45F) - it's never been a problem. but i here yah, looks like in 4 days we'll have a frost. so risking one night at 41F does not make sense. but 44-45F is OK for me , honest.

Another problem is that there are micro climates. While the weather apps might be saying 45, yours could be off by several degrees

yah, it all depends of course on actual conditions not just predictions.

i check the wind direction and speed too. when it's right mine actual temps are a few degrees above what is showing usually - so i am not sweating :).

..and then her sansi's promptly rotted ;)... due to unprecedented drop in temps!..ha-ha..

and after i bring them in they don't go to the basement, since i haven't got one.

i keep them indoors in good light at 70F in winter. may be that plays a factor.

i remember some people were saying they put them in the garage or basement and leave

them there until spring. in that case they could rot definitely!
