Personally, I would stay away from grey and brown in a space that has a cement plaster wall and not a lot of window. I would look for colors that had some warmth in them: green, orange, yellow.

with dark wood and gray built in, lets go looking for a print pillow or accent chair fabric that brings in some bright tones. you can build on that inspiration with art, look at calico corners or beautifulfabric. com for prints with both brown and gray and ..... orange is wonderful, dijon tones work, citrus green works, denim blues work - sinceyour couch is a bit different gray than the concrete wall, you need some large bright abstract modern art over sofa to give the eye contrast

Do you own or rent? You've got a great opportunity to go with texture if you want that. One thing you should definitely do is remove the little curio corner cabinet. It doesn't belong in the living area and certainly doesn't compliment your huge modern sofa--way to small and cutesy.

I'm going to say a lighter gray than the sofa but you're really wide open for color choices. The dark red pillow isn't adding anything and it'll be very limiting, red + gray is way overdone. The trick will be to find some pillows that have color and use that as a basis for choosing wall color.

You could do light gold, lime green or keep it simple with ivory. Here are some pillows to give you ideas

Love the cement wall and I actually like the purple and red that I can see in your picture. So I like the last two pillow options that leelee posted.
The corner cabinet doesn't look right there. I'd rather see a lamp like this coming from that corner:

Oh, and please lower the art that's on the wall :-) It should be at eye level. Generally the center should be about 60" above the floor, or if you hang it above a piece of furniture the bottom should be about 6" above the furniture.

I would pick a large art canvas and then pick other colors from that. Maybe yellow and purple.

Theresa, any colors would look great in your room. Any of the colors suggested above, and more, would work there. It's a matter of which colors you enjoy the most, because you are the one who will be living there :).

Paint the ceiling of the bulkhead off white and the vertical section with the heating/air con black. If the cabinetry is brown timber keep it and use accent colour Peacock blue with hints of burnt orange and add white. Use chrome arc lamp, chrome framed mirror or tile a small section of wall in mirrored tiles. I would keep the concrete look, but add a large abstract painting.
