Kitchen layout help

I'd love some thoughts on the proposed layout for my kitchen. I'm worried about having enough pantry storage right now, since I don't have a walk in, but don't think I can fit a full-sized pantry cabinet. Would love any creative ideas for maximizing the space!

In general, it looks pretty decent. There's no room for a tall cabinet to the left of the fridge? Otherwise, I don't see a spot. You're trading wall cabinet space for the open plan feel, and that's what gets lost.

Also, consider what you will store on that open shelf, and whether it will look sharp or just cluttered when full...

One other note: the space for your OTR microwave looks super-short as drawn. Be sure you find your actual model and make sure that you don't need shorter cabinets above it before you order anything...

The wall to the left of the fridge has French doors, so we can't place anything there. I am having second thoughts about the open shelving, agree it may just look messy... thanks for the feedback!

Agree with benjesbride. I prefer to have my stove and sink connected by counterspace, so I don't have to carry everything I prepare across.

Still the same problem with carrying stuff across... I wouldn't wanna do that.

Can you draw the kitchen as it presently is?

I'd move the sink to the window, and get the fridge on that wall where the range is. Maybe move the range over to the sink wall, or to the island. Then surround the fridge with a full wall of floor to ceiling cabs. Tons of storage, and you still have the counter along the wall and island to work. For the sink, with the right sink and sink installation, you can use a cover (cutting board accessories, etc) to cover the sink and reclaim that square footage for counter space if needed (like setting out a buffet for dinner guests).

Also, I say forget the classic triangle of work spaces. I have prep area where I work (access to sink, cooking appliances, food, and prep dishes/utensils) and are for cleaning up (dishwasher, dish storage, storage containers and sink). I imagine a two person team- one cooking, and one cleaning. And try to divide the areas accordingly to minimize getting in each others' way.

The kitchen currently is pretty much exactly the same as the first drawing in terms of where the appliances/sink are located.

I love the idea of moving the fridge and doing a line of full cabinets! I’ll play with that today.

I’m not too concerned about transferring things from sink to stove... I have to do it now and it’s fine. I’m much more concerned with maximizing storage and organization.
