The Golden Fullmoon, Acer shirasawanum 'Aureum' is the classic gold leaved Asian maple. But will burn to a crisp if sited in too much midday sun.

Interestingly, 'Akane' is only partially yellow for me in spring and mostly green during the growing season, deepening to a more solid gold in fall

Autumn Moon, Jordan & Aureum will all stay green unless they get enough sun, but like Gardengal say's, they will burn to a crisp if they get too much sun. Jordan is supposed to handle more sun than the other two. My Jordan does not get enough sun and it stays green. Sun / shade is a balancing act that affects leaf color.

My Summer Gold stays yellow all year in almost full sun in zone 8a. In the spring is when it really shines. It literally pops when placed in the right location with lots of regular green behind it.

I have a Jordan in full all day sun and it has not had any leaf scorch for the two years it has been there. When I first started with JMs I heeded the sage advice of afternoon shade but found too many cultivars under performing. I eventually started moving them to more and more sun with majority now receiving full sun in Florida 8b (Tallahassee). Much to my surprise they thrived and adapted, many varieties that I did not expect to handle the sun as well because most of the literature for those varieties suggested afternoon shade. I found that consistent steady soil moisture and regulated cool soil with lots of pine bark nugget mulch to be a biggest factor as to whether leaf scorch became a problem. I think I will give the Golden Full Moon and Autumn Moon a try especially since they are both shirasawanum and with your report of the Summer Gold shining so well will also order some as well.

Scott, what kind of soil do you have? I just purchased Summer Gold JM and was planning on planting underneath old Live Oak trees for filtered sun all day long. I live in 8b zone in central Texas so I find it intriguing that you're able to grow them in Florida with more sun. What's the summer and rainfall look like over there? I have Seriyu that is doing just fine underneath prompting me to try and grow a few more small maples around there. I had forgotten about Jordan maple. I've been wanting to try it for years but just didn't have sufficient shade at the other house till I moved to the current house to even try and attempt growing them. I like the bright colors of leaves because of A. truncatum (Shantung maple) 'Super Dragon' - It does get burn in the sun but I probably don't water it enough so I dunno...

I have two Seriyu in complete full sun that are 10 years old, beautiful and do great. I'll try to post a picture of them. They get no shade. My soil is about 6 to 12 inches of fairly good clayey sandy loam over some pretty thick clay. I always perch my JMs up and build good soil all around and tapering out a few feet in each direction. That way I get excellent drainage. Summers here are oppressive heat and humidity, 90 to 100 highs but plentiful rainfall (except beginning of October to mid November which is usually really dry). I get generally around 50 inches of rain a year. You might be surprised how many cultivars I grow in all day sun that are happy and healthy.
