Kitchen (Re)Design Advice Please!

So I've changed directions on my kitchen remodel and have decided to go with a galley style where the island will serve as prep/sink/dishwasher station which will be located directly behind the main cooking wall. With this layout, I'll have a 36" induction cooktop and I'm undecided on whether to center the cooktop/hood or offset it closer to the ovens. I'm leaning towards offsetting b/c of how the uppers work out but I'd love to hear advice from those with experience. It will also affect how I decide to position my sink in the island which is undecided at this point as well. But in the island, it makes sense to me to have the dishwasher as far away from the refrigerator as possible to avoid conflict. Also, I haven't figured out my lowers yet so advice on that is welcome as well as any other thoughts/advice. Thanks!

You had the other thread going on this plan - I think you will have a much larger kitchen the other way - more counter and more storage...also how are you getting to the kitchen from your garage?? You will need to walk through your game room or through the pantry...One other small thing to keep in mind - you now have a completely open floor plan from the front door - do you want everything that open?? There's nothing wrong with it, just make sure that is how you want to live - there will be no intimacy to the dining room and any dishes piled in the sink are completely out in the open. This plan also limits the "countertop" items you will have out - coffee, toaster oven, mixer etc.... Just think it all the way through....I liked your other plan in the other thread better - just my thoughts!

Also, the walk-in pantry is going to be roughly 10'x10' so it's plenty big for overflow storage of whatever I won't be able to store in the kitchen. I also plan on having large storage compartments (4 x 30") on the backside of the island.

Good job! I think you are correct about the fridge and DW.,and yes offset your sink, its nice to have lots of counter-space on the island.

It seems to me that having the fridge closer to the game room and dining room would create less of a traffic problem, so I would flip the whole thing. Is your prep sink the only sink?

A couple things I'd consider. Single bowl sink not directly opposite the cooktop for two person clearance. Because of your layout you can go with a 30" deep rear counter for more usable work space.

Debbi, you're right, I should have kept this conversation going in the other thread. I'm new here and still getting used to the interface but I know better than to start multiple threads regarding the same topic. Is there a notify mod or delete thread request function? This one should be zapped.
