A condiment server?...Mustard, ketchup, pickles and...mayo?
Can you tell if it's molded or hand formed?
I can see one of my potter friends making something like this...if they thought if it!

It's pretty rustic (and ugly) to be a condiment server. It looks like it is molded, and like maybe the handle was hand made and attached by hand.

I was thinking of planting something small in it, after drilling some drainage holes.

A gardener friend thinks it is a planter, but admits she doesn't really know for sure.

I'll hold off for a while before drilling holes in it.

I think it is a made for decoration "thing" -- for little bouquets of flowers or now, succulents especially faux. IMO for decorative purposes only nothing practical.

I'll run it by some friends this weekend. There's a good chance one of them might know something about it. I'll report back what I find out.

If it's smaller than 4" across or so per bowl, then it's not for a planter or bouquets (too shallow and rounded). exactly how large is each bowl?

If small, I'll go with 1) condiments 2) dips 3) desk top stuff like paperclips (this is a far less confident guess than the other two.) Because the shape looks much more like something for food, that's where I'm going.

The inside opening is 2". The broadest part of the bowl is about 3 1/2'.

I took a picture of it with another small planter that has much smaller bowls. It has drain holes in each bowl, and is supposed to look like some sort of a critter. See the head and tail?

I like the idea of jams and jellies. Does the one mentioned with drain holes look like the holes were drilled as an afterthought?

I googled "pottery multi-compartment serving cups" and found something very like your in old Italian painted ware. Another is called a divided tidbit tray on Etsy.

also typical of relish servers. Not so good for nuts because it recurves.
