Hoya Mailorder

What is the best way to acquire new hoya plants? I've been out of the hoya loop for a few years but since moving to S. Florida my interest in growing hoya's has started again. I have a few plants from years ago and they grow and bloom like weeds outside 12 months of the year. I know of AH Hoya Nursery from Thailand on Facebook. Is an import permit required?

Thanks in advance.

For 12 or less plants, you do not need a permit. 13+, a permit will be needed. They are still free (for now). Be prepared to pay a bit of a steep price for shipping, as EMS is fast, but not cheap. There will also be a $17 phytosanitary fee.

Thanks for the info. Do you know of any good sources besides AH Hoya?

Customs sorry so depending on your weather it might be worth paying ems shipping if you can afford it.

I live in South Florida so the weather has no bearing at all. As long as they're damp they should be able to stand the journey at least for a couple of weeks.

ok well some plants that are ordered from Thailand can take up to a month or more. however if you let the seller know, sometimes they can choose a faster shipping service or a bigger plant might survive the trip better.

Rare flora also has a website...gardinos. Excellent and highly recommended. Are there any in particular that you are looking for? Do you have a trade list?

This h. fraterna was my favorite. Notice I used past tense. I was growing it in my home state of Pennsylvania years ago before I moved to Ft. Myers and had it outside. It was in June when a freak hail storm came through and killed it. You can see how large it was from the background leaves. It was stunning. I bought it from a woman in Hawaii who grew and sold her hoyas as a hobby. I don't think she sells any longer. I'd like to find another large blooming fraterna if possible. I have a few other species that are growing wild outside in the shade. Nothing really rare. I never water them and they're growing and blooming like weeds

Welcome to Florida! Other than freak hailstorms or an occasional hurricane, you and your hoyas should love it here. I have about 30 hoyas but unfortunately not fraterna. My favorites are ones with smaller, unusual leafs and which bloom repeatedly. I m more of an obsessive plant lover than a collector.

I have also gotten great plants from yellowgreen2u and azurite on eBay.

How I wish I lived somewhere that hoyas love all year long! They sure aren't crazy about East Tennessee. Can't say I blame them! ;-)

    Happy collecting!
