Why not ask your local nursery for recommendations, since they have already learned what grows well in that area & what doesn't?

I hadn’t thought about asking a nursery thanks for the suggestion. So far I added a fluffy ruffle fern,rosy red Maiden hair, and in a sheltered area I’m trying fittonia to see what happens. I have a potted china doll and Norfolk pine I leave out in winter and they seem to come out fine in spring.

Have you grown Fittonia before? They require quite high humidity, like Terrariums or Bathrooms in order to do well, not sure they'll do well outdoors.

Some popular "house plants" at higher latitudes are invasive weeds in FL and nearby areas. I learned that about spider plants and asparagus ferns after moving from OH to AL near FL border. These plants are hardy (able to survive outside year-round) here, but too successful if put in the ground, and their seeds get spread far beyond ones' own property.

Any plant that likes humidity should love FL! One of the most humid places on earth. Plants that can't survive high humidity or low altitude (often called "alpine") would be ones to avoid, but the selection at stores probably would not include any of those anyway.

Plants that are hardy where you live are not considered house plants for your location and will be in the landscape & perennial plants sections. If you've moved south from elsewhere, you may recognize several "house plants" among the landscape plants. No plants are indigenous to a pot inside.

In my area aside from ferns most plants are offered as house plants, yet some like china doll,and spider plants do okay in northern California’s zone 9.

Passion vine is a nice evergreen, bird of paradise, mandevilla&dipladenia seem to be equally hardy (in pots), purple heart, various palms too! I hope you find some good ideas.

I’m not sure how the fittonia will do with outdoor humidity, they were reasonably priced so I figured I would try them and see what happens.
