I have not gotten any of these to flower myself, but I have heard that the following species are fragrant:

H. argentinum (aka H. tucumanum)

H. brasilianum

H. solandriflorum (aka H. elegans)

H. vittatum

And the hybrids 'Amputo' and 'Misty'. Those two are sometimes available commercially, and the species (except brasilianum) come up on Ebay occasionally. H. vittatum is easier to grow than the other species, in my experience, but it is very susceptible to HMV so quarantine any offsets you get until you're sure they're safe.

I wonder whether the trumpet shaped "Striped Panther" is still produced commercially and I suspect it has been continued. It has the smallest florets (BUT as regards the bare Diameter!) and it is conspicuously fragrant. "Santiago", another trumpet which I consider (like "Santa Fe", btw) a hybrid with parentage of "Striped Panther" has got just a hint of this fragrance. I have come to the conclusion that crossbreeding these two DIPs might be a good Project. I like Trumpets!

If doubles are OK with you then Blossom Peacock is one for sure, and of course good ole Apple Blossom.

Santiago smells like cat's urine for my nose.

Yes, Oleg I'm afraid I have to agree with you!! I mentioned this a few years ago and at the time I was the only one who could small cat urine!!

It's good that this smell is not strong.)))

For me Santiago smells like blackcurrants but I know that it's somehow similar to cat urine. I still like it :-) Jewel is a fragrant and beautiful semidouble.

My favourite fragrance is that of Rebecca, a beautiful pink trumpet I can really recommend.

Anja, you probably have old varieties of black currant, they have a strong smell. I have a large-fruit, she does near not smell.

Dondeldux--I like some doubles. I actually just bought a Sweet Nymph from EasyToGrowBulbs and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival. And do you know, I've been trying to get my hands on an Apple Blossom since I bought my Minerva! It seems like all the sellers run out of stock right as I go to buy, haha...

Hello Maria, nevertheless thank you for responding. It will not surprise me if "Santa Fe" will disappear... like "Pink Floyd", BTW! "Estella" is much more vigorous and it produced "fragrance" BUT outdoors (indoors the production of fragrance faded immediately, even on the florets which opened only indoors) and I have no explanation. "Estella" does not produce seed - unlike "Pink Floyd"

Olives, you wrote about your desire to have H. vittatum. Yes, indeed, it has a pleasant aroma. But, like many other species of hippeastrum, he only has two flowers in the inflorescence. Only thanks to the long-term labor work of breeders were obtained varieties with 4 flowers in the inflorescence. But his flower is wery beautiful.

Please don't let our little joking about Santiago's odd fragrance dissuade you from buying one, it's a lovely flower and you really have to go out of your way and stick your nose right in most of these flowers to detect the fragrance anyway.

I don't really have a good picture with all of Santiago's flowers out but you can still see that it's really a lovely flower not as large as this picture looks but very curvaceous. For me it's not been the easiest variety to grow but if you like the beguiling flowers, give it a chance.

Dondeldux--oh my goodness, Santiago IS beautiful! So delicate and curly...and it looks like it's a much more restrained red than in a lot of the website photos, all of which seemed to make the color look either super dark or very bright and gaudy. Actually it's very pretty and now I'm beginning to rethink that "bullet" I "dodged"...

Oleg9grower--vittatum is stunning and I don't mind the two flowers at all! They're real show-stoppers, with those stripes and those brilliant green throats. Now that I know they are fragrant, I want one more than ever!

Splash, a double is another that I used to have that has fragrance....some day, I'll get another.

Vittatum varies quite a bit in photos I have seen. I was fortunate enough to get a lot of fresh seeds, so hopefully I get some unique flowers in addition to the fragrance!

Like other wild-growing species multiplying by seeds, the vittatum has many varieties of flower coloring.

And this is good. In particular for us.

Pink Floyd had the nicest fragrance for me.

So THAT'S Pink Floyd! I'd read so many forum threads about it but never actually seen it. It's such a pretty, sweet pink color! And it's fragrant? Oh nooo, and everyone is always talking about how it's not available anymore... :( well, you are very lucky to have one. It's a charmer! :)

Donna...It has been nicknamed "St. Pink Floyd" for a while now. You know what that means. LOL

I'll say...mine gave up the ghost loooong ago. I've never had any sort of luck with this one :-(((
