Patience is a virtue

A year ago in August I bought 2 grafted adeniums from adeniumcenter.com. It was too late in the season for them to flower. Then I lost one at the end of last winter to rot, but this 'triple yellow aroma' survived.

The first (and only) bud appeared in July. I have never had such a slow developing flower on any plant in my life. It reminded me a bit of Walter Matthau in that Home Alone movie. I would check on the bud a few times every day, it just grew and grew, but it took nearly 3 months, until 2,5 weeks ago for the bud to start opening a little. And so another slow process started...

Last Sunday I thought I'd better take a picture (below). And then yesterday, I came home and it had dropped :-(

Hopefully I'll have better luck next year.

And for those who wonder: it had only just a very, very slight fragrance.

So nice to see you here.

That's unfortunate that it dropped of for you. They do sometimes seem to take forever to open. Sure next season it will do more for you.

Thanks Rick.

My adeniums have not had the best growing season this year unfortunately. The adults came out of dormancy rather late (trial and error since this was the first time for me), and the seedlings did not get enough light and attention as the building of the greenhouse took longer than anticipated.

For now I'm focusing on getting everything through winter again, and hopefully next summer I will have more pictures to show again here.

Conny, I/We here in my location in Canada found this Spring/Summer found everything to be way behind in growing of previous years. I found with my Adeniums that the blooms all came on in Aug/Sept, where they usually begin in July. They grew well and we had a heat wave of a summer.

Sounds as though next Spring will be nice having the greenhouse for them.
