the color of your Fire Island is pretty (lighter than mine)..I like the combination around the tree..the blue one looks good with the apple green on each side..

I like it in spring, the contrast between yellow and red is so nice...

windy, the contrast in your May picture is so beautiful, what a shame that some change the colors in summer. Rainforest Sunrise is on next year's wish list...

I think sometime I'll try to find one that starts out green... then turns yellow. I don't know of any that are consistently yellow/gold all season.

Although I do really like my two Honey Pie's.... they start and stay bright - just not as yellow as FI, nor really gold like Gold Drop.

windymess your garden is beautiful. I wish Fire Island would keep it's spring time color but the blooms later in the season are amazing.

One thing about having FI in a pot is that you can see those red petioles and the beautiful contrast more easily. I grew it in a pot for a couple of years... but have limited room on the deck so put it in the ground when it got bigger. I loved seeing it outside the laundry room window though.

Well, I’m looking forward to my Sun Power growing up... I just planted it this year and it was a perky looking plant, but green all summer.

Windymess, your Fire Island is looking so good---it's a getting quite large and the leaves are a good size! I purchased mine several years ago but then had some root rot. It is now recovering. I hope mine will grow to the size of yours one day. LOVE the progression shots!

A few years ago I took this picture below. I always remember it because I thought Fire Island looked so striking in the spring and Touch of Class complimented it so well.

Karin your photos of yellow hostas are great! You really show off the red petioles and yellow leaves of F.I. in the spring. Love that.

If you look at Don Rawson's Hosta lists http://www.hostalists.org/ you can see that there are many more hosta that become greener (viridescent) during the season than there are hosta which become more yellow (lutescent). I really love having some hosta that are lutescent. They just get better and better as the season goes on. The seedling that was given to me is lutescent. That is one of the reasons I want to keep it and move it to a better location in the spring.

newhostalady..that's a beautiful trio of hostas..I don't have Touch of Class..need to look for that one..I love it..that seedling has seed pods..I would save the seeds and try to grow more!!..

Jo, the combination of Fire Island and Touch of Class is gorgeous! I had a similar one this year with Mourning Dove and Prairie Moon.

Nicholsworth, I highly recommend Touch of Class. It is a very beautiful hosta and has good substance. I am pretty sure my seedling produced baby plantlets of which half were green and half were yellow. Only one green one is doing well right now. I will have a look at the seed pods it has currently and save some as you suggest.
