My Moonshine is also putting off some flowers. It was blown out of the window early in the spring and suffered major damage. You can see some of the damage scars in this photo along with the flower stem.

Melanie, Your not abusing them, You are giving them just what they want. I kill mine with kindness and over watering. The ones I don't brother with grows just fine. These are look but don't touch kind of plants.
