You can take them out of the pot, clean the rhizomes, dry and store them. I always think that's too much trouble. I am zone 5 in Colorado. I leave mine in the pot. I wrap the pot with bubble wrap and cover it with a brown paper bag and wrap tape around it. Then I put the whole thing in the garage. On April 1, I unwrap, water and fertilize. Then I put them outside in the sun during the day and back in the garage at night until late May when the night time temps are stable above 50. Good luck! They are worth it either way.

I’m in glenwood Iowa and I dig mine all up clean the dirt off and put them in a cardboard box in my basement but this year I’m planting them a couple in pots so I can keep them indoor until it’s warm again I would pull yours out and separate them make sure if you cut any that they have two eyes atleast. That’s what I was told and it helped me a lot live and learn lol
