Mint in water

I propagated my mint stems in water. Leaves became droppy (but not the soft leaves kind). Roots have grown to at least 2 inches, but they are turning black. I am suspecting that it is root rot :'( Will preventing light from entering the water help the mint to grow healthier roots without any root rot?

*I change the water at least twice a day

Finally found a way!!! Tried adding bleach in water and it worked wonders. All of my brown roots turned off-white/cream colour!! I will try using a small amount of bleach in my water every other day and see if it is sustainable in the long run.

I'd be very careful with that. Bleach makes a good disinfectant because it kills everything. Maybe your plants can withstand more of it than the pathogens can, but do you really want to hit them with more and more after the pathogen is gone?

In the university laboratory we dipped the cutting in undiluted bleach for a short time, several seconds, and then rinsed it thoroughly. Or, some preferred, dilute the bleach and soak the cutting for 15 minutes and then rinse.
