Where exactly your appliances are located is an issue in both layouts, but definitely the first option is better for a kitchen. The second one would work only if there were an island in the middle.

If you're open to changes to the layout, try posting in the Houzz Gardenweb Kitchen forum, they're all about function over form.

You would be well served by getting a kitchen designer. Neither of the plans work as shown. You need way more room around the kitchen table if you're going to fit chairs around it and the layouts are nonsensical. You could do so much better and no doubt save yourself some money and headaches.

Your forum will show up in emails or at Houzz, on my computer it's upper right corner.

In the Houzz tool bar at the top of the website, click on "Stories and Advice". That opens up a menu, find "Gardenweb Discussions", under that heading here is a "Home Forum". If you click on that, it will take you to another menu page where you'll be able to find "Kitchen". The people in that group are REALLY into kitchen design and will help you find the most functional layout for your space. Good luck!
