I was bound and determined to make my two hoya cork mounts work... and I was warned: http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/4611990/my-first-epiphyte-mount-opinions ... I still have both mounts, but the only plants that really do okay are the air plants and a mini orchid... and I guess my dischidia (although it has not grown at all). I removed most of the Hoya plants... except DS 70 which lasted the longest without looking pitiful, but even it is starting to show signs of stress. I got tired of taking them down to soak them all the time (even in my humid bathroom). I think in a tank set up they would work better. And I've read loheri is a great Hoya to try for mounting.

I used a drill to make a few inconspicuous holes and attached my plants with floral wire gently threaded over the plant roots (clumped in sphagnum moss) and I twisted the wire on the back to secure everything down. I'll try to remember to take a pic when I get home of what they look like now.

Without a very humid environment it'd be difficult with cork. I've a lot growing in trees and the vines attach themselves better where there's reasonably sized cracks and crevices, or the bark is flaky. Also, some Hoyas would be less suited to that type of culture than others.

I think I'll use this opportunity to branch out into orchid growing. :-)

H curtisii did well on a cork mount. I however, ran out of patience to water it every single day, I did it for months before I put it back in a pot.
