Meyer cuttings update

Hi all, just wanted to share some fun things about the cuttings I rooted in September! 2 out of 5 cuttings are actively growing. I credit that to being in the best sunny window while the other 3 are living but not doing anything. They're also in southern windows but on the ground floor where it gets shaded half the day.

This is the slower growing cutting. It only has 1 newly formed leaf and is finally pushing new growth at the bottom node and tip! Yesterday I noticed something strange in the middle though

It's growing a flower bud!! This cutting is crazy! Which makes sense because the original mother plant is as well. This cutting has only about 2.5 leaves and thinks it can support fruit already.

My other cutting has been growing aggressively and making it fun to watch it grow. It's pushing new growth at almost all the nodes and trying to branch out but I'm a terrible lemon owner and knocked off 2 tiny growths after taking the "After" photo. I've knocked off its new growth a couple times before, maybe that's why it keeps trying to grow new branches everywhere?

All cuttings are still in their 100% peat moss rooting container and doing well. I'm moving one of the stagnant cuttings to the good sunny window with the 2 growing ones . I will see how much faster it will take to get new growth with a full days worth of autumn sun.

Has anyone thought about putting their small trees on slanted roofs? Lol I wish my large Meyer tree can get sun all day like my windowsill plants.

Don't laugh, but I stuck a few into bark mulch back then just for the fun of it, a dog came along a peed on all but one...I thought they were all goners..Well all were except one that I happen to notice that missed the dog pee as I took up all that mulch last week for fall cleaning!..It is now in my room starting to grow, and I am so excited! I think it's a baby Oro Blanco!

Looks like you are already going to get flowers too, along with fruit...I am not sure if I would remove the spent flower before it sets fruit with such a young cutting. Maybe someone here can suggest something?

Kvetchlambkin beautiful congratulations!!!. Now you have lot's of offspring's if something bad happens to the Wacky Mother plant . It's very normal to see flowers on cuttings and most of the time before it even has roots . Try not to knock off the new growth lol they will never grow . Congrats again I can almost here your excitement .

Keep an eye on Steve for ideas about growing stuff on slanted roofs and other creative ways ;)

Haha Brian so true. I've promised myself not to touch the cutting from here on out. The only thing going near it will be my watering spout.

I will definitely keep an eye out for his posts hibiscus! Thank you for the heads up. He always has creative examples that really gets the mind buzzing with ideas

This one is growing so fast now! There's a 2nd flower bud emerging at the tip and the leaves are stretching out so much in just 2-3 days. I hope everyone else's cuttings and seedlings are enjoying this sunny weather!

Hi Mike! I enjoyed the flower on my lemon cutting and removed it, when it turned in to a fruitlet.

Wow Mike, I'm so glad to hear one escaped the dog pee and is growing for you! It's so exciting to see it grow new leaves from an itty bitty cut branch. If my cutting looked more like a proper tree, I would've considered letting it turn into fruit but that cutting took almost 2 months to push out those new leaves so I don't want to risk it. My original Meyer mother is a different story though! She can fruit as much as she wants now. I got some baby backups :)

As for your baby cutting, don't grapefruits grow enormous? I think if your cutting came from a thick branch then it would be ok but if not, I picture a skinny cutting completely bent over from trying to hold a huge grapefruit!

Kevin, thanks..I wish you all the best with yours..Let's do updates every so often...I will post mines too. It has yet to grow a leaf, but it looks like it's readying itself)

Of course Mike! The cutting is very lucky to have you as its owner. Yes let's exchange updates on them as they progress! I like that idea very much. Can give us a look at what conditions will make them grow better
