Wandering Stitchers question

Due to increased prices at Holston, we are once again looking for a location to have our retreat. Since October is a popular time for leaf peepers in the mountains, we have suggested an alternative date of April 11-15.

Tim found this place for us to check out.

Quilter's Inn

She is going to check and see if there are dates in October available, but we may have to go in April. As an added bonus, there is an attached quilt shop, but it is located near a fairly busy road. There is also a small cabin behind the main house that has 3 twin beds, bathroom, and kitchenette at the same price

This is another possibility.

Ponderosa Retreat

This one is more secluded, but costs just a bit more. The work space may be a bit larger here, too.

Both have kitchens, so we can prepare our own meals.

If you have any other recommendations, please feel free to share.

I'M good, too. I like being able to fly into Knoxville. Shorter drive for me.

The April dates are available, shall I have her pencil us in? I'll bring a coconut cake for Jackie

Sounds like a winner to me. It is also less expensive, which is amazing. Let us know when we need to send you some money.

Anytime in April works for me. It will give me an excuse to get out of Florida.

I will plan on attending at either location and date.

I’ll attend both/any/all our scheduled retreats and even those not scheduled — cause I’ll be RETIRED!!!

Beverly asked me to contact the Ponderosa again, and I will ask about late September if October 2018 is not available. That might give us more choices.

I am up for both locations and dates!

I don't think the April dates would work for me. We don't get home from Hawaii until April 4, and after being gone for three months, leaving again in a week sounds like too much. Taxes have to get finalized in there too.

I would love April. Fall months don't really work for me.

Teresa is still working on a fall one, too.

I can't do both but it would be nice to have a choice to make it fit my calender better.

I can try to make either one work. It is more expensive for me to fly to Knoxville, but with enough advance notice, I can watch airfares. The properties look pretty nice. The one disadvantage of sharing a room with 3 people is we need to be sure to pack earplugs! :) Or not sleep ...

I'll have my CPAP machine by then, so no snoring for me. I'd suspected I had sleep apnea for 20 years but didn't realize the damage it does to your brain and body. Now I have a weak heart due to the condition. Please check into it if you suspect you have it.

Bev, it does pay to get regular check ups and stay ahead of a lot of these things. Sometimes you don't realize how bad things have gotten.

I think it was not as recognized as it is now. DH would fall asleep at red lights before I started working at the store & took over driving. I remember telling the folks at ER 'he stops breathing' but nobody paid attention or heard me. It was several years later that he was diagnosed with it.

Glass, that is scary. Glad they finally figured it out.

My friend failed to tell the doctor doing her knee replacement that she had sleep apnea. She had a massive stroke four hours after the surgery as a result. Yes, it can cause stoke as well.

    Bev, that is so sad.

Both look like nice places, and the time of year works for me. The but in all this is an 8+ hour drive, so i don't know if I would attend again. Something to think about.....

We have a date at the Ponderosa Quilt Retreat in Waynesville NC that is set aside for us: arriving September 18 (a Tuesday) and departing Sept. 22 (a Saturday). There is a 10 people maximum, so I’d really like to hear from those of you who want to commit to our fall quilt retreat at this location in 2018. I know it might be a distance for some members, but if anyone — anyone at all, wants to find us another venue, I say go for it!
