Powder room decorating help?

Would love some ideas for decorating my tiny powder room. Need suggestions for pictures or something above the toilet area in the space shown. Also do you like the backsplash we have chosen? It’s not attached yet but would like your opinion if you like it better with or without the backsplash.

Have seen worse countertop-backsplash combinations. It seems too busy and competes with your countertop. Would choose a single color from your countertop for the backsplash. Would hang a large piece of wall art above toilet.

Great, could you show me the backsplash and wall art you would use?

Your vanity top is very pretty. Is it possible to find a matching backsplash? I agree with mdln - what you've posted is too busy. Glad to see the other snarky comment gone.

I agree about the backsplash being too busy. The vanity top is very nice, though. If it were me, I would paint the walls a more lively color. There is already enough gray/beige going on.

Seagrass, we used a remnant for our bathroom top so there was not enough stone left for a backsplash. I just don’t know what would go with the top without being too busy.

Sas95, my husband just painted the br and we went light because the space is so small. He won’t be up for a repaint at this point so I am trying to add color with backsplash and wall art but need help.

I would pick a solid color from the bathroom top - maybe to compliment your floor tiles? You don't want the backsplash to be the focal point. Really like the faucet and handset you chose. Look at your before and after pictures. The busy tile detracts from the classy lines of your fixtures.

Why do you need a backsplash? It looks very nice without one. If it's a "powder room" it won't get heavy use, will it? Not like a kitchen. You can add color with wall art and accessories.

Seagrass, it is a br that will get used fairly often. I watch my grandkids three times a week and they use the bathroom and then wash their hands so water would probably get splattered around the area and onto that back wall. Need decorating ideas also.

I like no backsplash but if one is necessary then make it simple. For the wall above the toilet, I have to ask what was there before? I would put a little funky shelf and ask the kids to pick some stuffs to put on the shelf. And if it's for others like vistors and such, maybe a little candle, a tiny air plant.... I put tiny picture frames of kids and grandkids on the little shelf in our guest bath. Your colors are really nice blxa2805.

As far as art, I'd go with a large piece, art exhibit poster, photo you took, something downloaded and printed, basically anything you like.

Stolenidentity I had a single elongated picture in the space before but it doesn’t go with our remodel now. A shelf could be nice. Any pictures of ideas would be great!

"Also do you like the backsplash we have chosen? It’s not attached yet but would like your opinion if you like it better with or without the backsplash."... No, do not like the backsplash; think it would look better without one - if you use that tile.

"Great, could you show me the backsplash and wall art you would use?"... Would use something like the following.

To bring some color into space, above toilet:

As I said in your duplicate post on Bathrooms, I think the backsplash looks great!

I like mdln's tile suggestions above very much. It's such a calm room now, please don't add that mosaic backsplash.

I have a hard time answering this. I like the backsplash you chose much better than the calmer ones, they seem to add nothing to the room where as yours adds depth and I think it is very pretty. I have no backsplash in my master and powder rooms used by very young kids with no issues so I would either go without or with your splash. The neutrals shown above are too lack luster to bother with and a splash should be the jewelry I think.

So if you want a little extra keep your splash if you want a neutral safe bath go without. I always choose the something different look for my own space as safe, neutral and the usual choices bore me but many find too much visual stimulation to be noise where I find it to be music so for my house I would prefer your splash to none or worse, a safe choice, but that is me.

After looking at mdln’s mock-up, I don’t like the mosaic either.

Find a big framed print to go over the toilet and be done. I’m not a fan of lots of stuff on the toilet top. I had a friend once who had candlesticks (!!!) on hers. I thought it was the silliest thing I ever saw, so it put me off decorating there. I had boys - urine mist, you know. Ugh.

I like a more plain backsplash as well. And maybe a biggish picture behind the toilet and that's it. I imagine you are adding the tp holder anyway.

If it were my room, I would cover it with wallpaper. I know a wallpapered powder room is somewhat of a decorating cliche, but I love it anyway. The wallpapers dover P suggested looked pretty fab to me.

reclaimed wood shelf idea (lifted from Pnterest):

My own home made shelf has smaller wood from a shipping crate but it's happy in the guest bathroom :)

You might be able to do a glass mosaic splash if you used a solid color. I have a sheet of grey glass mosaic sitting here. I think I picked it up at Home Depot to look at as an accent liner for a house I'm helping my sister with. We didn't use it, but I still like it, Something like that in grey or beige might satisfy your desire to have something decorative without fighting with the vanity top.

If you know the name of your granite, you might also be able to find a prefab backsplash strip. I recently bought tile at a place that sells prefab granite counters and they have matching splash strips for them too.

Lascatx, I really do like glass better then ceramic for the backsplash. Maybe a smaller scale soft grey glass subway would tie everything together. Not to crazy about the beige, grey would pull from the countertop and the mirror better IMO. Anyone know of a smaller scale soft grey subway? I went to Home Depot and Lowe’s today but didn’t see anything that caught my eye that was more simple. They all seem so bland! I want some pizazz in this bathroom.

Doverp, those horse pictures are really unique! Where did you find them?

Something like a Mother of Pearl maybe?

Doverp, now that’s pretty! Plus it has both the grey and brown in it. Can I ask where you saw these? Maybe mdln could mock them up for me to see how they would look with my vanity. I love mother of pearl!

I Love those horse pictures too!! Thanks so much for the information. I especially like the second one.

Thank you doverp, I will definitely take a look at those. I think they are so pretty, just hope they will work with my granite countertop. Thanks again for some great suggestions!
