This year's striped beans

These striped beans resulted from my obsession with the swirled patterns from Jembo Polish, the only one I grew before. I just harvested the last one today, the greyish ones to the right below the pod, Ram's Horn (Ramshorn). They are still damp so will shrink. Clockwise from them are Ojo de Cabra, Rio Zape, Bosnian pole, and Jembo Polish, part of which are dry. The pod is a mystery bean which has not matured enough to get a clear idea of the seeds, the pair below the pod which are rather immature and have very light magenta swirls. I'm not aware of ordering any more striped beans so I am puzzled what they could be, they seem to mature very late, and the pods

had a slight purple haze over the green which seems to be intensifying with age, and a slightly fuzzy texture. Any ideas? The Ramshorns are an impressive long and tender roundish bean, 7-9" long and stringless, which get quite bumpy as the beans mature and have been late, as well as Sicitalian Swamp, to make dry beans, so I hope they will mature soon before we are seriously into the rainy season. Any ideas about my mystery striped bean? They need to mature more to get a better photo.

Thanks, Donna, I did look at Rio Zape there, it does look similar but are pole beans. The beans got close enough to maturity to dry some seed. The pod photo shows a slight purple tinge. The beans on the left were much earlier maturing and were my first guess for Rio Zape, and were 5-6' pole vines. The beans on the right are the late beans, they were quite magenta when first shelled, also 5-6'

pole vines, on a different trellis. The only other new striped bean I planted that I can't find any beans that grew was Tiger Eye, also from Azure Dandelion, but I planted bush beans in a bed that was not secure enough and decimated by rabbits. It does not resemble either bean. Last year Jembo Polish was my only striped bean. No resemblance there either.

I went back to the Azure Dandelion site where I bought the Rio Zape seeds and it says they are pole and the photo matches my seeds on the right, so I now believe that is what they are. They were so late I don't think they are really worthwhile to grow here, especially compared to some much higher yielding and earlier beans like Ojo de Cabra and Sicitalian Black Swamp which were really prolific.

Sorry I can't help you ID.. but I am happy you had to post this thread- I had never heard of Azure Dandelion before.. it looks like a neat site, I'm happy you shared it.
