Rule of thumb is the chandelier is 1/2 the size of the table…for you, that would be 42”.

what is the rule of thumb for linear pendant over kitchen island? My island will be 84" x 60", ceiling height is 9'. Thanks

In our projects we see the linear pendants over the island broken up into several smaller pieces so that there isnt such a mass in a area that frequently has peolpe standing around it.

An example of this would be on the 84" island I'd encourage our customer to use 3) 9-12" pendants. Laid out in the centerline of the islands width (60"), and then Divide the Length 84"/3. One set in the center of the length, and then the other two (1/3) of the length offset from center.

for a long rectangle table, I like the linear chandelier cover about 2/3 length and 1/3 width to let everybody sitting around table feel bright. At same time, the edge of light fixture still need be at least 6" far from the edge of table to avoid people hit it when stand up. You should combine all those to think together. The traditional rule for round chandelier is not useful in this case.
