Some of the best orange fall color with JM's comes from the green-leafed weeping dissectums, like Waterfall, Viridis, or Jeddeloh Orange. But if you are not a fan of those forms then I'd consider Sango Kaku, Japanese Sunrise, Mikawa Yatsubusa, Akane, Katsura and Shishigashira.

According to Vertrees, some good varieties for orange fall color are Hogyoku, Ichigyoji, Korean Gem, Okushimo. In my yard, varieties with lots of gold/orange include Shishigashira, Orange Dream and Viridis (cut leaf). Also Koto-no-ito, but it’s leaves are so thin that colors aren’t spectacular.

Another good one for fall orange color is Acer japonicum 'Emmett's Pumpkin'.

I forgot to mention Villa tarranto, which has a nice golden orange color in the fall in my yard. It is deep red in the spring, gradually changing to a green-red blend in summer. It is a linearlobe or strapleaf variety, but leaves are wider than many in that group.

'Villa Taranto' can be rather variable in its coloration. In my garden the fall color is more gold than anything else.......I'd not consider orange to be much of a factor :-)) Different siting and soils may produce a different effect.

If I had to pick from gardengals lists I would definitely go with the Sango Kaku because of the beautiful bark color it has and looks great even after the leaves have fallen from the tree.
