8 years agoCamellia sasanqua 'Long Island Pink' is in full bloom now, other fall bloomers are only just now starting. This one is busy with yellow jackets.

This pic was taken today @ parish church. Likely an Ackerman hybrid, notice the wild growth. A cold snap is headed our way but there are scores of unopened buds left to bloom afterwards.

Sam, if it gets too cold, even the unopened buds can freeze. We'll have to see.
Got the rest of the persimmons picked just in time.
- 8 years agoThis is a current pic of 'Masek' crabapple. Fruit is same size as a cranberry. This one stands out because of the delicious, sweet taste. I can see this is a good one for jelly making. Does anyone know anything further about 'Masek'?

I don'tknow much about 'Purity' camellia just that it is blooming now and pure white.
6 years agoSam, thanks for refreshing this post. I was mowing leaves this afternoon, and noticed my scrappy little native lonicera with both a flower and some fruit. It was 25 degrees on Halloween night, so this was a big surprise for me.

Maybe 80% of my crop of persimmons this year. Sam, someone suggested the corky areas could be due to a calcium deficiency. Maybe it only happens during the years there's an unusually large crop. Or maybe liming soil might help?
