I have to disagree actually. OTOH, some of what they offer might be of limited interest to those in the PNW. They have had, for example, certain root rot resistant offerings like 'Charles Loomis', 'Opal Thornton' and several others that aren't needed in a climate where root rot isn't a problem ;-) They also had rare things that Ron would spot somewhere and try to put into production, like a hardy Pomegranate from the Philly suburbs. (again, not needed in zn 8 PNW) A lot of stuff never ended in the catalog because they didn't have enough to offer. With his exit from the nursery, something that surely would have Hank rolling in his grave, I expect to see less and less of that kind of material in the catalog or at the nursery. There's no one left there that really has a passion for advanced horticultural; that being said they know how to read trade journals, facebook groups, etc. and find out what's trending in the world of plants and order it from wholesalers. To offer via mail order. And there are fewer and fewer places that even bother to do that! I don't think they've become a 'bad' nursery I just think they aren't going to be what they were. I'm glad I had an opportunities to buy the really choice stuff over the years. Going up there in spring 2006 was actually the single most important thing that changed my 'horticultural fate' LOL. Coming from the DC area, I did not know that we could have quasi-maritime climate-style rhododendron gardens on the east coast. No it's not like there were 5' Nancy Evans there like I saw in Christchurch, NZ, but you could see rhododendrons that were trying to be yellow LOL. No sinograndes, but still rhodies with unexpectedly subtropical looking, large and bold leaves. Etc. etc. etc. It helped that Hank was such a warm and charismatic "ambassador" for the genus.
