No problem with the invite. I will take a look at it but I have to confess, I just don't keep the records you keep. I do keep records of where and when I purchased a plant or leaf but thats it. I, generally speaking, don't get that much satisfaction out of the administrative aspects of a collection.

I can see you put a lot of work into this so I will let you know what I think, once I've had a chance to review it.

On a more serious note---seems to be a nice program, you have really been working hard ! I don't need that much info so it wouldn't be a good program for me. And just fyi,,,,drumroll please,,,,,I mastered a spreadsheet!!! Minimal info. Really just a list of the names of plants I have and how many (plant, leaf, sucker, etc.) of each. Nothing more. And I can barely keep up with entering THAT little bit of information!

But I will say,,,your system is really quite awesome! Good ideas in it.

It took me two months to figure out how to enter things in the cells of a spreadsheet! Imagine if I tried something like yours!!!! O goodness, I am laughing already! Rosie

Whoa. I wasn't able to check out your Ideabook until this morning, dviolet1. That is so beyond a simple inventory list or the Excel spreadsheet I use! It is truly a database - complete with reports. You have put your obviously considerable skills into creating something that covers everything (and more) one could possibly record about one's violets - and looks very pretty while doing it.

That said, for me as a hobby grower it is overkill. I just don't have the inclination to spend that much time with record keeping for my own use. And there are some things I would not want to know (i.e., the initial cost of every plant in my collection - yikes!!) Joking aside, where I work we transitioned to a very busy software system earlier this year. The big boss likes it because he can see any minute detail at any time - reports are his life. We on the front lines hate it because everything simple has become over complicated and data entry now takes three times as long to accomplish the same result on the working end. But reports? Oh, baby - we got it covered. Probably it is the frustrated and disgruntled employee in me that makes me see your efforts in less than a desirable light at the moment, so please don't take offense at my comments. Thank you for inviting me to look at it. It's very nice; just not something I feel the need to adopt in my personal life.

I am on vacation. I will look into it when I am back home.

There is already a ready made DB - First Class. You can add your own plants, gesneriads... The amount of fields is limited - but it is quite useful.

I looked through it and I would guess that some larger growers/collectors could benefit from its use. Certainly, folks who do a lot of propagation might find it easier to keep track of things. I don't fall into either of those categories.

I don't mind at all if you keep me posted on the projects development. It looks very well done and may well provide you and others with a valuable tool.

I find the program impressive but WOW, kinda too much overwhelming for me! Thanks anyway dviolet! Rosie
