When we do medallions we try not to confine them inside a border, but have them organically fade into the field. It never really "ends". The pre-made. manufactured ones, while they can be pretty, do look more like a "rug". Fine for some spaces. Medallions need to be to scale and be part of the room. We have done them in bathrooms, living rooms, laundry rooms, kitchens, and yes, even the foyer. Size of the home doesn't matter. Obviously they need to complement the style of the home however. Some of our work goes beyond the traditional definition of Medallion, more custom tile features, or sometimes, just plain art. A few examples (not all finished photos).
