Browning of older, interior foliage is normal. The issue is in determining if the amount is typical or unusual.

Where are you located? Has the weather been overly dry? How long has the tree been planted? Can you post a photo of the entire tree?

This tree is new, planted spring this year. So it's about 3' tall. We've had plenty of rain here in NC. Here it is in September doing well I think. I'll take a current pic if you need one?

I think you are getting open growth allowing the old dead foliage to show noticeably each year because your cypresses are in too much shade.

But the plant has only been in the spot for about 6 months.?? Regardless you might be right.
