Two seedling flats

Two flats of the same seeds, received and planted at the same time, in same medium, side by side sun exposure, all cultivation the same, except one thing. The smaller growing seedlings are in a container that had drainage holes, while the larger seedlings are in a container with no drainage holes and a layer of expanded clay pellets on the bottom. I thought the smaller seedlings would catch up, but the seedlings in the leca flat are continuing to grow at a faster rate. If there is no downside to this, I will grow all seedlings in a flat with leca.
