Hi,

I purchased some amaryllis at my local garden store. I don't know which kind, but I purchase the big bulb that were about 6 inch in diameter. I was wondering if you have any tips for me for growing them. I have did some research.

• I purchased a pot that is about 2 inch's larger than the bulb because many article said the bulbs like tight spaces. I thought about using a self-watering container, but though it may pose problems.
• Because the flower appears to be top heavy, I used a heavy claypot instead of the plastic ones I usually use.
• I plan to use regular potting mix.
• I plan to water the plants regularly like about every 5 days, but reduce water to say every 2 weeks or so after flowering. Water should be supplanted with a high phosphorous fertilizer.
• After flower is spent, cut off the flower, but leave the stalk until it wither.
• Take the plant outside during the sprint to Fall so it can absorb enough sunlight to rebuild the bulb. Still not too clear about stopping watering and getting it to go dormant.

By the way, if I plant the bulb, how quickly will the bulb flower and how long does the flower last. If I want it to bloom around Christmas, should I wait a bit before planting the bulb?
