My Meiwa grows in my sunroom near the southwest window, it is on Volkamerian roots, grows soooo sloooow, taking it's sweet time :) I was not planning to repot It, but had to do it couple weeks ago ( thanks kids! ). My kids secretly planted strawberry seeds in it's container and they grew fast, I didn't want to hurt the kid's feelings by pulling out the strawberry seedlings, instead I separated them and the strawberries are growing happily in separate pots. I got my Meiwa around March and it didn't grow much outside over the summer.

I was reading up on citrus varieties generally (the Monterrey Bay nursery citrus info page is one of the best) and they mentioned that the Meiwa only grew during the very longest days of the year even in California - I think it wants long day length and lots of heat to grow and flower. They also mentioned that without sufficient heat Kumquats may not flower.

My Fukushu bloomed heavily early this year and is loaded with fruit, but we have very hot summers here.

Laura, do you know the rootstock of your Fukushu?

Fukushu did bloom and now has tiny fruits and also new growth coming out. Calamondin flowering nonstop since I got her in september. Centennial does nothing yet but also new since september. My seedling meiwas two leafs most of them but I see new growth on at least two of them. Big meiwas, one on C35 and one on Carizzo. Volkameriana not good for Kumquats or so I heard (no idea if that is true but fruits will not be as sweet) I think I will just order the smaller meiwa and see if I can make a beautiful tree out of it.

Laura where and when die you get your Fukushu? Will they be ripe soon?

My 12" meiwa is holding onto one fruit from the spring. It flowered 2 more times in summer and early fall but the little fruits fell off. It was so busy flowering there was little leaf growth until now when it's sitting 8 inches away from a 23w cfl because I'm hoping to encourage the fruit to ripen. No change in the kumquat but there's new growth at all the tips and along the trunk, including below the graft. It's on Volk rootstock like Sunshine's, probably cousins since it came from Greenscape too.
