Ideas for finished basement update

I purchased this home from the original owner built in 1989. The half basement is finished. It was a sports bar theme. Its well done quality wise. I don't drink much, never have parties so a bar would never be my choice. I would prefer a home theater because i do love movies.


How can i update this room? I am hesitant to destroy quality work but its not designed well for a home theater. That smaller bar section really cuts the useable space in half.


Do any of you feel the bar will represent resale value if kept?

Im curious to hear your advice. The red circles are speaker locations but ive determined it was regular speakers for a baseball game not wired for surround sound.
