I know you already have the drapes, but I wonder if blinds on the door wouldn't work better? I am not sure the drapes work with this door. But maybe the pros have a suggestion to make it work.

Sorry hon, that looks purely awful, doesn't work for your door. Get shades. Your peninsula, door opening etc...make this ugly and also impractical. Have a home visit from a Hunter Douglas dealer. a JC Penney for options. No to above pic.

what if you do something like this? i would place the curtain full ceiling to floor and than add some pictures or mirrors to fill in that gap between the rod and the door

The doors are way too close to the cabinets. There is no trim on them--were they just installed? can you move them?

Unfortunately, the doors can't be moved. However, we are anxious to make this situation better! We just ordered the circular table in the pic and chairs for the table are on the way. The window had Hunter Douglas Blinds on them and the room was so dark, that I took them down to find another solution.

The door only opens on the left, but the peninsula on the right makes it a little tricky. I'm going to put the drapes on rings and see if that helps. Willing to try anything to get the right look! Thanks for the suggestions,keep them coming! Picture is of a look that might work??

If you want to make it better, ditch the drape idea. Totally!!! Get woven wood shades that mount on the DOOR. Two of them. You will not cut light that much, they DO rise, and that is a much better look than blinds You are simply sticking a square peg in a round hole.

Hang art to the left side for balance and stop trying for a thing that doesn't (and won't ) work. : )

Can you say more about when you will use your window treatments and why? Are they merely decorative or are there times when you like to use them for privacy or to block out light?

Your situation doesn't lend itself to any sliding solution, but just about any up/down product will work. As already suggested, some shades can be mounted to doors themselves. I like roller/solar shades for their minimal look and always mount them above the door frame - perfect for households with children and pets as well - as they can stay out of the way of sticky fingers.

It looks like your left part opens towards the right. We have a similar door with blinds. When the door opens the brackets that hold the blinds hit each other. Just something to keep in mind if you do decide on shades or blinds.
