Can we get a shot of your front door? I would either look into recessed lights. but only if it's not going up on the second floor ceiling. Another option are sconces in that area which will also provide the light you're looking for.

I think yes, I'd do a small flushmount or semiflush fixture on the low ceiling just inside the door. It's natural to have an entry light anyway, and it will restore light to the adjacent first-floor spaces. Aim for 2 lights probably, or a bright single.

Sorry these are a bit all over the place, but I can't tell whether your chandelier is more traditional or more industrial from that photo. Anyway, these range around various degrees of contemporary/transitional.

You could of course do recessed, but it won't do as well at illuminating the broader space as a flushmount would.
