This happens to me now and then too. I currently have an Opal Star and a Cherry Nymph doing this very same thing. The bud emerges and then stops an withers! I also had an Exotic Star that appeared to be doing the same but this bud was starting to open whereas the others were drying up. Exotic Star managed to give a 3" stem which saved the one flower.

I tend to leave them alone thinking that they will continue to wither and won't cause any damage to the bulb. Not sure if this is the correct way to handle this situation but it is what I do rather than try to cut it out and perhaps cause damage to the bulb..

I'm sure other here have had the same experience and if they have a different approach, they will tell you. I know how disappointing it is to see a bud wither for no apparent reason!!!

Yup...been there and did the same thing. I figure, when the leaves grow in and fill in the hole where the aborted bud was, it will be fine. Like Donna says, as long as the bulb doesn't rot.

Ok thank you both. I'll leave it and see what happens. If it does rot I have several Splash offsets anyways. Hopefully if I keep it dry it will either come up a little or just wither. Thanks!

Looked at this bulb the other day- the withered tip of the scape is almost gone but to my surprise there is a new scape coming up on the other side of the bulb! Splash is definitely a prolific bloomer!
