I have a ceiling fan in my kitchen and enjoy using it often--I haven't noticed any of the problems mentioned above. It keeps the room more pleasant while cooking. Where do you live? If you don't need or enjoy the air movement it offers, then get rid of it. But if you use it, then you can find a better style. I will attach a picture of my kitchen fan.

A good exhaust system keeps the air pleasant when cooking and does not cool off your food .

One option is track lights installed where fan is and adjusted for your needs

I used to have a ceiling fan and found it got very dusty quickly and was not much use. I replaced it with a fixture many years ago - am looking to replace the newer fixture when I see something I like. I have ceiling fans in the upstairs bedrooms and they are great - but I have decided they are not so great in the kitchen unless you live in an area of the country that uses ceiling fans everywhere.

I had a small ceiling fan in my small galley style kitchen...I ended up replacing it with just a plain flush mount light when I had a couple other fixtures replaced. I couldn't use it while stovetop cooking because it would mess with the flame but I did like it for moving the air while doing dishes or doing work in the kitchen that did not require the flame to be on. I would consider going back to a ceiling fan if I ran across something half way decent looking.

If you don't use yours or haven't used it since you've had it, I'd probably just replace it with a light fixture.
