Micro suede on victorian sofa?

I inherited this sofa from my mother. My wife does not want to keep it unless I reupholster it. I was thinking blue/gray micro suede. What do you think?

Personally I would prefer something else. Microsuede has a very particular look that I think is more suited to modern style furniture.

Not so much, no. Plain fabric is fine, but microfiber isn't really right.

I agree with Liela, microsuede is not the right choice for that couch. I think the blue/grey color would look lovely, just not in microsuede. I could see a rich grey velvet looking absolutely stunning on that couch.

Have fun with it!! I would develop a multi-fabric, multi-trim design that would make this sofa come alive. Not sure what your favorite colors are, but you can get a good designer to come up with a great combo and love this sofa for years to come. Indeed, as Gary Finley mentioned, replace the interior cushions with nice foam core and down wrapped cushions. Give us colors you love and we could help get you going.

A couple more inspirations. You can choose any fabric, colors and "looks" you want.

Thank you everyone for your feedback.

As the current upholstered colors is no more than 10 years old, i’m afraid to make a bad choice of color or fabric and have my wife tell me to re-do it again.

What fabric do you think works well with this sofa? And what is the best way to view / feel this fabric in person. I live in San Francisco and do not know where to go.

Also, can you tell me what I am expected to tell the professional upholstery service what i would like done to my sofa?

Thank you again for your input

Contrarian here.......I feel microsuede would look great. It would add a fresher, modern feel to a very traditional frame. Done in a solid color, like the blue/gray suggested, this sofa would having lasting appeal and usability. OTOH, print or tapestry fabric would be much less versatile for room design changes and you'd tire of them more quickly, IMO.

I'd make sure the seat cushions had a crisper edge and didn't flop over the edge of the base....it would look tidier.

Microsuede isn't right for this sofa. Go with a solid or subtle texture. If you're willing to be bold, the fun fabric combinations that other suggested can turn this sofa into a statement piece.
