Susanne, I assume it is a RB tree, right? That is what they call the limequat. It will say key lime (limequat). I think I figured out over a year later that what I had were limequats and not key limes. Of course, then I was on a mission for a real key lime tree - and got two - thorny and thornless!

I had read that a limequat was a cross between a key lime and a kumquat. I guess they left both tags on there maybe to suggest that they can be used like a key lime (I have seen some recipes that will sub limequats for key limes).

But which variety is it? Lakeland or Eustis? Or Tavaris? And how do those three varieties differ?

I am not sure of the variety. At one point I called RB farms and asked them. They were not sure but said that based on the timing of when the trees went out (I bought it locally), it was Lakeland. It looks a lot like mine. Jenny, they taste identical to a key lime except maybe the peel is thinner and, some have said, slightly sweet. I’ve made excellent key lime pie with limequats.

So you have not tried to eat the whole fruit?

No Susanne. I’ve not tried nor will I try to ;-). The juice is as sour as a key lime....ever tasted one of those?? Ugh...I think it would take the enamel off my teeth ;-)

I found that key lime tag very confusing, too. Mine also had a tag that said Lakeland, and it is a RB plant. Got mine over a year ago. It hasn't done well. But for some reason it decided late fall was a good time to finally start busting out some growth. Hope yours does better than mine, those flowers look promising :)

One thing I find annoying about Record Buck, besides their trees getting sick or dying as they have done with me, is the confusion surrounding the labeling of their trees. My wife came home with one of theirs labeled "Navel Orange" I emailed them to ask which variety navel orange. They could not give me an answer.
