Need help deciding do you put handles on long cupboards and knobs on drawers or vice versa

I’ll share what I just did and why. I put knobs on doors and pulls on drawers. For 37 years I had 3 inch pulls on everything and simply wanted a change.

My current kitchen has knobs on upper cabinet doors and a mix of knobs and pulls on drawers. The pulls are bit small for some of the large drawers.

After the remodel all drawers will have larger pulls and the upper cabinets will have knobs.

I do like the look of pulls on upper cabinets, but it seems to work better on more contemporary designs with simpler doors.

If you look at photos on Houzz you will see all different combinations of knobs/pulls being used, so there isn't just one way to do this. Do what looks pleasing to you and what works best for your family.

It really is do whatever you want. Personally, I don't like knobs. I put the same size pulls on every door and drawer in our kitchen. I like the consistent look apparently. :-)

Here's my standard advice on knobs/pulls: Go to a place that has lots of them on display.

Try them out. Some will feel good in your hands, others will be too chunky, too delicate, too small, too big, scratchy on the back, too close to the cabinets, whatever. I have small hands, others have extra large hands. Make your knob/pull choice fit your circumstances. Don't forget things like cup pulls and finger pulls (I don't like either, but many do).

Now you can think about what you want stylistically. There isn't any standard for knobs vs pull or even exactly where you place them or vertical vs horizontal. Look at photos in which the hardware appeals to you. There are several older threads on this site which talk about those issues. Unfortunately, many of the photos are missing due to changes in Photobucket and Houzz. If you want to see photos of something particular, like "Where did you put your knobs, top corner or part way down?" then post a request for new photos. We could use some new ones. Make a decision. Have fun!

As Suzanne said. I have early on-set arthritis in my hands and it was imperative that I try knobs and handles. They had to be comfortable with no hard edges, and both the knobs (on the uppers) and the pulls (on the lowers) had to have a high relief so that I wouldn't hit my knuckles on the drawers and doors.

I ended up with pulls on everything. Just check that they are comfortable for you.

I do like knobs for cabinets as well... I was simply tired of decisions, and all pulls are effective, too.

Do what makes you happy! I did all pulls installed horizontally. My previous kitchen was knobs on doors and pulls on drawers. Before that, it was all pulls installed vertically. Whatever you choose, make sure they feel good in your hand.

I saved this picture a few weeks ago. I love the square knobs on all the cabinets.
