Fred...I did exactly just like what you did and stored mine in the garage for the winter. Mine did not like it and died. Maybe it likes to be grown as an evergreen. Good job Ely looks like it's liking what you are doing!

That's it!!! When I get home from work, I'm bringing upstairs to the warm and sunny porch.

I have two of them that went outside for the summer. One of them nearly died and the other is flush with growth.. go figure. The one that nearly died is sending up a leaf while the other one is still growing strong. I will continue to grow them as evergreen. From the appearance of the flower I would guess that this is a cross between aulicum and mandonii.. maybe? I grow my aulicums as evergreen but my mandoniis all died, one by one. The only thing is though, mandonii and aulicum routinely only put out only 2 flowers while Green & Saturn delivers 4.

I also have some seeds that I bought on EBay of aulicum x mandonii and they have been growing vigorously in the same pot for nearly 3 years now, never taking a breather and doing extremely well. I'm hoping that one or more of them will resemble Green and Saturn!

I hope your seedlings are as beautiful as or more beautiful than Green and Saturn. Who knows, maybe you'll get something as beautiful as Beatrice's or Frank's mandonii hybrids :-))))

Thanks Fred, I also have from the same seller some papilio x mandonii seedlings grown from seed and although, these aren't as far along, they are also doing very well. Do I remember that you may have bought some of these seeds also? How are they doing??

My mandonii x papilio is growing quite well and surprisingly fast.

But my yungacense is taking it's sweet time.

Green and Saturn did not flower this year, hopefully it will next year.

Hi Fred , mine stayed in the polytunnel this summer , not growing , not dying , and recently this autumn started a new growth , so I brought it inside the house. I got it last winter so I don't have more information . My bulb was big (For a Komoryia bulb ;-) )and strong , and still is. So I was wondering too if it could be evergreen.

Fred, your seedlings look great!!! Your yungacense look great too, just have narrower leaves.

Béa, that's one great looking Green & Saturn! One of mine kept it leaves and is doing the same as yours, the other nearly died, lost its leaves and is now trying to stage a comeback!!

My Green & Saturn hippeastrum has been for 3 years, and I always stand with the leaves. I'm sure it's always green.

Donna , I remember we were thinking there should be different clones of G&S , isn't it ? maybe you have the 2 diffrents clones ?

Beatrice, your Green and Saturn looks absolutely beautiful and healthy :-))) I have since brought mine up from the basement and the leaves have started to stand straight up and their color is coming back. I usually mark the tags of my evergreen hippies with green ink to remind myself that they should grown as an evergreen, otherwise I forget or get confused. I'll make sure to include this one from now on. I did purchase my yungacense seeds from Ebay by Pavel who is also in this list.

Béa, I think at the time we determined that both of mine were the same as yours. One bulb larger than the other had 4 flowers the other 2 but the flowers were the same to my eye. Yours is so large and lush that I think we'll see yours sending up a scape soon!! Green & Saturn is on my favorites list!!

I cross my fingers for all your Green & Saturn bulbs because the flowers are really gorgeous! Béatrice, yours actually looks as if it would flower soon. Please post pictures if it does! I've never seen it on Komoriyas website so I could stay strong, whenever I look there they have nothing that really convinces me to pay the high prices.

Fred, your seedlings look nice and strong! I hope you show us the flowers in a few years. I'm always turning a little yellow when I see you growing those beautiful species :-)))

Well, to my complete delight I found this beauty in bloom yesterday. I came home to this after a pretty heavy duty weekend burial of my wonderful Mother in Law in northern Maine and believe me, I needed to see something to help cheer me up. The scape is surprisingly tall at a little over two feet and I just finished plucking the pollen for storage.

That is really beautiful Fred! I wish you strength and lots of flowers during this sad time.
