If your in a area that gets frost then yes it is normal. I just cut mine down and wait for spring.

I use a drip irrigation. I’m in zone 6a and I have had some frost two weeks ago. My soil is not the best it’s like sand so I add compost and top soil before I plant anything. Thanks everyone!

all hosta require a certain amount of time in total dormancy ... and yours are now dormant .. until the soil starts warming at root depth next spring ...

no need to cut them down ... the dead leaves will let you know where they are next spring ...
