I would wait til you move in and then post pictures. So many variables - do you need privacy, do you need blackout to sleep, do you need to block sun, etc. etc.

Thank you. I will post some pictures. My first concern are the bedrooms and bathrooms! I will get those up ASAP. I like the idea of putting up something now until we can take our time. We were planning on doing custom for some rooms but want to keep the budget reasonable with the amount of windows. For example, in the kids bedrooms we probably won't do custom but in the kitchen, family room and master we would like to do custom.

Such a good idea from torrey to go get those paper shades. They are a great "temp" fix.

When I move into a new place, I bring along a roll of wax paper and some tape. As a last resort when you realize you need instant privacy, you can cut pieces of wax paper and tape them to the windows.

Art supply stores usually have large roles of craft paper in lots of colors. Mine sells it for 25 cents a foot and it's about 36" wide. I had to use it on my 3/4 lite front door for about 6 weeks until my shade arrived. Blue painters tape held it up at night and I took it down during the day. Not fashion forward but it served the purpose.

Often an easy choice for kids' rooms is classic washable white cotton curtains from Target or amazon.com. With good sturdy rods, they will be fine for years. They run about $20 per 96" panel or less. The paper shades are perfect temporary solutions. I've seen more than one homeowner use them for years where no other obvious solution presented itself.

Another easy thing for kids' bathrooms is to buy two fabric shower curtains in a pattern you love. Use one for the shower with a standard vinyl liner and hem the other to fit as a window curtain.
