dining room interior design HELP :)

Hi all! I just got my new dining table delivered today & I need help! I am just not good at this kind of stuff and I absolutely love seeing how you all help so many others who post for advice. Dining room is 12.5 x 11. Dining table is a 60 inch round with 6 chairs (2 are in the back of the room in the photos). The only other piece of furniture in the room is the 16" x 32" alcohol cabinet. I need lots of help & suggestions. Artwork? Mirrors? Sconces? Alternative placement of cabinet? Thank you so much in advance :)

Barnes Custom Builders: I will try placing the cabinet on that small wall when my husband gets home to help me move it. Thanks for the suggestions!

Stunning table and chairs, and perfectly suited for that space, Great choice!

Next, I'd think about a rug choice. Natural fibers or something with color to use as an accent. It's open off of other rooms, so are there colors from other rooms that you want to carry in the space for a consistent transition?

I'd love to see a big mirror on the wall, with maybe a wreath draped over it. I love the light a mirror brings to a dining room, but people don't necessarily like to gaze at themselves while eating, so something to distort the image like a wreath, always works well in a dining room, IMO.

I think the liquor cabinet if it's staying is fine where it is, but can you store the bottles inside and not out? Then on top, you could place a pretty tray for bar accessories, a lamp, vase, flowers. You might consider adding some rustic floating shelves above the liquor cabinet, for stemware. Here is a link to one option for that. And another.

The mirror here is a bit too ornate but for the general idea... I like the rug in tis image for your space too...

Bar idea, on a smaller scale for your space...

no you don't Poonam. you don't give suggestions. you post pictures of your paintings on many different posts (half the time your type of paintings don't even go w/the decor of what the poster has) . You post your website and your paintings. You never post any other items other than your own, and you never post any other helpful suggestions, just your artwork for sale.

You exploit this forum for your own personal ads. Continually.

this isn't a forum to sell you items. if you would like to go read the rules of this forum and this site, be my guest.

@rebeccamomof123 Thank you so much for all of your suggestions. I appreciate them more than you know :) I definitely love the big mirror idea and I really like the one in the pic. Now, are there some kind of rules that say you shouldn't hang a mirror without something underneath it to ground it? I also love the idea you have regarding the bar. I was thinking it needed something above it anyway. Before the table and chairs were delivered, the cabinet was centered on the wall that it is currently on. I shifted it over so that I could put one of the extra dining chairs (see photo in 1st comment). Just not sure if the extra chairs are messing things up for me. Maybe I should store them in a spare bedroom? If I move the cabinet to the small wall as someone suggested, I could still do the shelving above.

Ashley, I don't think there are any rules that say an awesome mirror can't stand on its own - I just think we are conditioned to thinking that because we're used to seeing mirrors in entryways over hall tables, over bureaus in the bedroom or over a buffet in a dining area. If it is substantial to cover at least 1/3 of the wall, and drape a wreath over it, I think it will easily stand on its own.

As for the extra chairs, does the table have leafs that open it larger? Otherwise I'm not seeing where you could even fit them at the table. Is there space on the back wall to angle both chairs to create a small seating area where you could put a round table between? I don't think there is enough depth to do that without the table chairs bumping it when sitting down and getting up, correct?

If that back wall is too shallow, then I would keep the chair where it is in the corner angled towards the liquor cabinet. But, if you do the open shelving to create a 'bar' area, I would center the shelves to the wall, not above the cabinet, which isn't centered. I'd find a throw pillow to coordinate to the rug/space and place it on the chair so the chair/pillow/bar console appear as an ensemble together. Make sense?

Also, can you post a pic with the light off, so I can see the chandy detail, color, etc. - it might lend other ideas for style in that space.

Here is an antique brown/beige and ivory round rug that keeps your color palate light, airy and neutral and will look great with your wall color.

Not knowing what color hardware is in your light, here is a mirror that could work nicely, with a fresh boxwood wreath hung over it. It would achieve this type of look, (but with a mirror):

And for the throw pillow, I'm a pillow person, so I'd probably change it up seasonally. Here is one for the winter. or you could fund a fun holiday pillow at Homegoods. I think the fur adds a fun texture to the room.

    Rebeccamomof123,
No, the table does not have a leaf. 6 chairs fit there, but tightly and they can't get pushed in when all 6 are there. I tried it out before ordering the table.... see below for the pic I took at the store with all 6. I tried angling the chairs on the back wall for a little seating area and it is too shallow. I am attaching a photo of that as well. I took a picture of the light fixture....it is a brushed nickel. I understand about having a coordinating throw pillow to make it look like an ensemble....that is a great idea!!! I love the picture of the frame that looks like a window (except with a mirror). I have seen those around and loved them! I also am liking the boxwood wreath suggestion as I don't really have any colors besides natural ones going on anywhere in the house. The natural greenery look I think would be nice. I think this room is going to come together very nicely!

    JudyG designs,

That post was when I was still shopping for a table. I was mainly trying to figure out what table would look best or even fit in the room. (Round, rectangle, what size, etc.) Now I have my table and am looking for suggestions on how to pull the room together. That was my very first time posting on this site, did I break a rule or something?

I moved the alcohol cabinet to that small angled wall. I think I might like it better. I still want to do the wine glass shelves above it. I hope that light switch doesn't get in the way.

Now I have that other wall that I moved it from to worry about. Maybe it would be better back where it was next to the chair? I feel like there was a cozy little thing we were working towards with the cabinet, the shelves, chair and throw pillow. Thoughts?

The bar cabinet looks so much better on the small wall. I think the two chairs would look better square to the wall with a console table between. It looks like a buffet would protrude into the room too much. Art could be hung over the console and other walls as desired. Shallow shelves could finish off over the bar cabinet.

Better pics! Yes, too tight to put chairs against back wall. It leaved no room to move around. And, I liked bar cabinet better the first time, paired with the chair. I don't like on the kitty-corner jutting out like that.

FYI, I included links to a mirror on Amazon for you, that will look similar to the inspiration pic I posted with the wreath. Now all you need is artwork for the other wall, the shelves, and a centerpiece for the table. You could do a pretty tray with some candlesticks corralled on it, or a vase with dried or fresh flowers. It's really going to come together beautifully! If you want to add a bit of color, you can do so with the candles, flowers, rug and artwork.

Are you planning to paint the room? The light paint seem to blend with the chairs. I like the bar on the small wall and would like a mirror or shelves above. Consider putting the light fixture on a dimmer switch. Try all the chairs at the table to clear space to walk around the table.

Beautiful table and chairs. That being said, you need some color in this room--perhaps a rug with color and pattern, wall covering, a more interesting chandelier, and some art work on the walls. No windows? Maybe some fabric on the walls to add softness. Then you can do something on the table--a runner, candles, a bowl of fruit or flowers.

Although it is a tight fit, I like the look of the chairs around the table better than on a wall.

Thank you everyone! I am almost ready to go shopping! A few more questions. Here is the table with all 6 chairs around it. my husband prefers it this way as it leaves lots of space to walk around the table. I can center the alcohol cabinet on that wall now. Thoughts on all 6 chairs versus just the 4 with the extra 2 tucked away in the back corners? Also, which wall should I put the mirror on? One wall faces the entry hall and the other faces the living room and back door & windows. Thoughts?

So much better with all chairs around the table!

Yes, better with all the chairs at the table! I'd probably put the mirror on the wall that faces the entryway versus back door. It will give the room a larger appearance when people enter the home. Do yo already have a mirror in the entryway?

No, I don't have a mirror in the entryway. We just moved in less than 3 months ago so I don't have anything anywhere, haha. I'm just getting started.

We think a new chandelier would be lovely, a rug might be nice, some artwork, and even a mirror over the bar cart might work. Here are some of our designs below to look through to give you some ideas.

Much better with all the chairs. A pretty centerpiece would look great on the table.

For my own table, I found a shallow Asian pottery piece and then did an arrangement with a variety of faux-succulents.
