Interesting. Don't know if there's a way to hurry up fruit ripening on the tree. I'm posting here mostly just to follow this thread. Never heard of a kinkan kumquat before. I'm always learning about something new here.

I find it is easier to put lights over my kumquat trees to mimic flowering time to give the fruit a month head start so the fruit ripens in time for fall. Thinning of my fruit works very well for earlier ripening.

I can’t imagine the lights helping my tree, as amazingly it doesn’t start flowering until September or October. The fruit grow very rapidly, but still just miss the frost line.

Misters are the best method to avoid frost damage. Plastic or light blanket cover with small light bulbs inside is probably second best. You could also try moving your tree...maybe to California!! LOL

Meiwa kumquats are tasty even when they are mostly green. If kinkan is another name for Meiwa then pick them befor the first frost and eat as is or cook with them.
