I never tested for or thought of it. If you can catch the moisture a window of a single pain of glass works very well for pulling moisture out of the air. You will need to empty your catch pan.

I just occurred to me again. If you set your furnace blower to blow continuously you can use your citrus trees to humidify your whole house. Most people have to add a humidifier to their furnace to take care of dry air.

Steve, my thoughts are the same. I was going to say to put a fan near the door way to blow the air from inside the room to a adjacent room. I am not very familiar with forced-air heating especially their air-intake and distribution systems. We have the old style hot water radiators and we also much prefer the house to be on the cooler side.

Steve I'm not sure if that would work with the heating system we have. The humidity in the rest of the house is rather low in wintertime. Have to consult with my husband.

Nancy I opted for the hOmeLabs 4 Gallon (30 Pint) Dehumidifier from Amazon. Now I have to figure out how to control the heat that might develop while operating. On frost free days I certainly can open the windows but on other days not sure if I damage the roots from trees that are directly in frond of the window? When I decided to transform my mudroom into a citrus grow room, I had no idea that it would be so complicated. I have to come up with an idea to place at least the bigger trees throughout the house and keep the cats away from them. If the grow room is not as crowded, plants will benefit.

Tropic I have to keep the door closed to keep cats out or I will have a disaster in there. But otherwise would have been a perfect solution.

Susanne, it looks terrific. I don't think that with small dehumidifiers the heat emanating will elevate temp more than a few degrees. Can't tell with my room as there is so much heat from my lights. My cats always complicate things too, and they especially enjoy the warmth of my greenhouse. Will be eager to hear how this works for you.

I was also going to suggest a fan for the humidity. If the air gets moving then there shouldn't be much mold forming even if there was a lot of humidity. Probably wouldn't have to leave the door open either. Maybe place your dehumidifier underneath your window if it's short enough. Open the window a crack to let cold air cool it down if it starts running hot

Remember you can use the water from the dehumidifier to water your plants if you want. It’s pure water with no minerals/salts/solids in it, which can be handy.

Then the plants will sweet it out and the dehumidifier will condense it again so you can reuse it over and over again
