Vintage Dining Room Set

I no longer want this set. It was made in late 1920s by Period Cabinet Manufacturing Co. in New Albany, Indiana. It was refinished in 1980; I realize that decreases value. It is in relatively good condition except the leaf stored under the table needs to be handles gently. Also, the foot on the buffet needs to be repaired. The set survived Superstorm Sandy. The china cabinet currently holds a full 20 piece place-setting and more than 60 pieces of crystal. There is also a good deal of storage in the buffet and serving table. It seats 6 comfortably, although I have had as many as 10 seated. 6 chairs are included. Suggestions appreciated. I really want to get rid of it, but obviously don't want to just drop it off at the dump. Antique dealers in this area don't have space for it.

But price each piece high enough that no one will buy just the side pieces to paint fuchsia or chalk paint.

Craigslist or your local facebook tagsale pages are your best bet to sell it.

that's a very nice set typical of the period which is in demand. You should easily have $350 for it....
yep Craig's list or Facebook for sale page in your area.

Also consider selling the pieces separately. Someone may want the table and chairs or the buffet but not the rest. Whole sets are in less demand (unfortunate to break up a set, though).

Where do you live? That could affect what you can get for it.

I have a similar Jacobean revival set with the same number of pieces I bought on Craigslist in early 2009. Mine was in perfect shape. Only the table surface had been refinished. Mine is a little more massive looking.

I paid about $1000, I tried offering less but he wouldn't take it. But antiques are not cheap here (Chicago suburbs). That was in line with other pieces I saw from other sellers. If anything, proportionately it was a little cheaper considering it had so many pieces and was something that needed no work, unlike much of what I saw.

Values may be different now, and may be different regionally. But it gives you a jumping off place. Hope this helps.
