What type of lights? CFL? T5 fluorescent?

5500k will be fine if you are using fluorescents. So will 6400k/6500k. So will 2700k and 3000k. I've yet to read anything suggesting that the fluorescent "grow bulbs" have any significant benefits over standard fluorescents.

Yes. For instance, this pine and scheff are growing under two 16watt (100w equivalent) leds. They’re 5000k daylight and produce 3200 lumen combined.

The lights run 10 hours a day and both plants keep putting out lots of growth all winter.

The leds are from Lowe’s. They’re on sale for a little over $1 currently. They put out what seems to be a more light than an equivalent cfl (finally) and produce much less heat.

Awesome! That's what I was hoping to hear. I feel like a shmuck for buying one of those super expensive grow bulbs.

On another note, what kind of Pine is that? I have been looking for a Pine tree to keep as a house plant.

It’s a Norfolk Island Pine. They’re easy to find in all different sizes. They don’t survive in the cold and need constant warmth all winter.

with enough light, correct watering and soil, they’re grow fast and look great.

Dave, That is really cheap at $1/bulb. Do you have a local rebate going on for them? Would you have a direct link to the bulb on lowes.com?

Dave what are those light bulbs screwed into on those shelves? They're regular shaped light bulbs right? Not tubes that go in fixtures?

That’s correct. They are single 5000k 1600 lumen leds. I have two on each shelf, producing 3200 lumen for each plant. Seems to keep them happy and growing all winter long.
