Looks like it was not done yet. Shouldn't it be yellow??

I had wondered about that, but read that it can be ripe and picked when green. I don’t think it was fully ripe because it tasted like a grapefruit. I will let the others go a while longer. I read that harvest time should be Dec/Jan.

Very nice Laura. I’d let them hang on the tree until the end of January, at least, in your neck of the woods. Maybe even late February, it won’t hurt a thing and should help sweeten it up. Wait until you get a cocktail pomelo, they’re unbelievably juicy and much sweeter than the Oro blanco. It’s only downfall is the seeds. Congrats again on the Oro Blanco!

Yes, it looks like you picked the fruit to soon..The rind should turn a slight golden yellow/green before picking and the flesh would be a pale opaque yellow when ripe. The pith is extra thick and is bitter so you might have tasted a bit of the bitterness from the pith also. It is always hard to figure out and evaluate when to pick the first fruit off a tree for the very first time. But it is exciting and the fruit is beautiful. You have more fruit left on the tree so you still have a chance to taste some excellent tasting fruit. Lucky you.. :)

Thanks Evan. I will do just that and report back. I do hope it improves in flavor. I have a cocktail pomelo that just bloomed and is growing a bunch of small fruitlets...hopefully it will hang onto at least one.

Thank you Jinny! I think we were typing at the same time. Yes, the pith was quite thick and bitter. I basically cut it into chunks, added some sugar, chewed and spit out the pith. I just feel bad for that poor tree holding on to those heavy fruits!

I have 3 oro blancos at my lemon farm; even here they would not be ready to eat for maybe another month. BTW I hate grapefruit; but the OB is tolerable; I only have it because it was sold to me as a pomelo.

Thank you John. I now have hope that I will have more than just beautiful flowers from you guys’ comments. I’m glad to hear you like them ok. I don’t like grapefruit much either, but I was hoping I’d like the Oroblanco....hopefully next time around.

Yeah, that Oroblanco is obviously not ripe yet. (and I'm not saying that because of the green exterior)
