Sick Orchid Question

Hi all,

I attached a picture of a previously sick phal that I have. The top leaf became yellow a couple of months ago and eventually fell off. This necrotic looking stump was left in the center. The rest of the plant is doing FINE but I am wondering if it will ever grow new leaves or flowers again, because this is right where the new leaves form?

Thoughts?

I would not write it off. Continue with normal care and see what happens.

It can still send out a basal keiki from a dormant node. Don't give up hope on it, just give it lots of bright light and keep the center of the leaves nice and dry when you water it.

This crazy plant spiked where the crown broke off. It keeps on blooming. The flowers all faded and I didn't cut the spike, not sure of what it would do. Then it rebloomed from the spike. Stopped, and now is putting out 5+ more buds. It's like there's nothing left for the plant to do but flower! Genius, lol!

What you have is likely crown rot. It will not grow new leaves and will slowly die. This may take a year or more for the entire plant to die, but it cannot grown more leaves once the crown is gone. It can flower, but I've not seen that happen. It can also grow a basal keiki and you can grow the new plant. This I have seen and the mother plant took nearly 2 years to die completely once the basal keiki started growing.
