I got a bunch of Daffodil/Narcissus and Crocus bulbs for dirt cheap on clearance.

I assume, since our ground is not only unfrozen (it rarely freezes to any real depth), but still relatively warm, that I’m fine planting them here in MD in early December.

Few questions:

The crocus corms actually have shoots starting to pop on them – which goes against all I’ve ever read about bulbs needing chilling – are these still OK to plant?

Second, more general question…planting depth. My soil is a very nice loam, but only about 6-8” deep, then gets much more clay-ish and “lighter” in color. If I plant larger bulbs at the recommended depth, I’m essentially placing them at a level where their entire root system is in the much lower-quality subsoil…is this still the best thing to do?
